Beer, cumin, and chili powder are the main ingredients in this sweet and spicy pecans recipe and nuts are very popular as an appetizer at parties. Your guests will love these spicy roasted pecans. There are various sweet or savory recipes using pecans but this one is delicious as an appetizer and not too time consuming to make either. Roasted pecans are delicious enough to be a good appetizer but not too filling to spoil the main meal.
The beer adds a warm, earthy flavor. It might sound like an odd ingredient to use for coating nuts but it really does go nicely with the overall flavor of these easy party appetizers. The great thing about these flavored nuts is that you can store any leftovers because they keep well. Spicy pecans are much more interesting to serve than plain peanuts and it shows your guests you have made an effort.
You can also use almonds along with peanuts in this recipe too. Use whichever nuts you can get or whichever you happen to like. Add a quarter of a teaspoon of red pepper to the mixture if you want some extra spiciness.
Ingredients -
½ cup beer
½ cup sugar
½ teaspoon cumin
2 cups pecan halves
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoons olive oil
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with foil.
Combine the pecans with the cumin, salt, and chili powder.
Pour the olive oil in and stir well. Arrange the pecans on the baking sheet in a single layer and toast until fragrant.
This takes about 10 minutes.
Let them cool on a wire rack, then put them in a bowl and add any spices, which are loose in the baking pan.
Pour the beer into a pan and heat it over a low flame.
Stir in the sugar and heat it to 250 degrees F using a candy thermometer.
When the pan reaches that temperature, remove it from the heat and stir in the nuts.
Replace the foil on the baking sheet and spread the pecans over it, breaking up any big clumps.
Let them cool to room temperature.
