A Great Recipe for Fried Wontons with Banana

Pork and fried shrimp wontons are quite common. Perhaps you have also tried fried cream cheese shrimp wontons or another variation but the following recipe is for banana wontons, which taste delicious, especially when teamed with a spicy, Asian inspired dipping sauce. Wontons are ideal if you want to make something Asian and something crunchy and delectable. Wontons are wonderfully crisp and each deep fried pastry package holds a soft, delicious surprise inside.

Deep fried banana wontons are easy party appetizers to make and you only need three ingredients. It is possible to make your own wonton wrappers but they do not taste much different to store bought ones so you might as well use the most timesaving method and buy a pack of wontons. These banana wontons will taste homemade but nobody will know you have not made the wonton wrappers yourself.

Choose ripe bananas, preferably ones with black freckles on, because they are sweeter and richer in flavor. Greener bananas would also soften as you fried them but they would not be so sweet, so it is best to use older ones. In fact, this recipe is a really good way to use up any older bananas, which you would otherwise throw out.

Deep Fried Banana Wontons

Ingredients -

Pack of wonton wrappers
2 ripe bananas, chopped
Canola or peanut oil for frying

Preparation:

Peel and chop the bananas.

Put a banana piece in each wonton wrapper near the middle.

Do not use too much, else the wonton will not seal properly.

Dot the edges of the wonton with water.

Turn one corner towards the other to make a triangle shaped package, press the edges together and seal it well. Heat the oil.

When a breadcrumb sizzles in it, it is ready.

Use a slotted spoon to transfer several wontons at once into the hot oil.

Once they start to blister and brown, flip them over, adjusting the heat if necessary.

Drain them on a paper towel and serve warm with a dipping sauce.
