Americans have more parties in their homes at Superbowl than any other time of the year, including even New Year's Eve. More food is consumed on Superbowl Sunday than on any other day of the year, which is why it is a very good idea to have a few great Superbowl recipes up your sleeve.
Did you know that four thousand tons of popcorn, eight and a half million pounds of tortilla chips, and fourteen and a half thousand tons of potato chips are consumed in the United States on Superbowl Sunday? Dominos usually delivers twice as many pizzas as usual on this day too.
If you do not have tickets to the game, the next best thing is to invite some people over, make some delicious Superbowl recipes, and enjoy the game on TV. Obviously if you have a big screen TV with surround sound, the experience is even better!
Superbowl Sunday is a national event and whether you are a diehard football fanatic or just someone who enjoys a party, Superbowl is a great day for snacking. Typical Superbowl recipes include tortilla chips, pretzels, potato chips, dips, chicken wings, nachos, ribs, shrimp, spreads, salsa and dips, cookies and all kinds of other tasty finger foods.
The most important thing to remember about planning food for Superbowl is to keep it simple. Forget the fancy canapés and elaborate appetizers - your guests will want wings, chips, dips, and easy food to eat. Their attention will be on the game and they will just want some easy party appetizers to nibble on while they enjoy it. Also, having a good but simple menu means you can enjoy the event and your guests' company without having to spend half the game in the kitchen, fiddling with appetizers.
If you aren't sure what to make, why not make some classic and traditional Superbowl recipes like chicken wings, pizza (either mini pizzas or a whole one cut into slices), a couple of dip recipes and other favorite holiday appetizer recipes like sausage rolls, mini burgers, deep fried shrimp and cookies. You can make some of these recipes yourself and buy others from the store. You can serve store-bought potato chips with a homemade cheese dip recipe, for example.
You might like to serve some vegetable crudités as well, for variety and in case there are any vegetarians. Chop some carrots, celery, mushrooms, and zucchini into chunks and serve them on a big platter with a creamy dipping sauce in the center. This is something you can make a couple of hours in advance but cover the veggies with plastic wrap so they do not dry out.
Do not forget beverages. As well as beer and soda, you might want to serve spiced cider or hot chocolate. You can make these in advance and keep them warm in a crockpot. Make sure you have plenty of ice for the cold drinks and have coffee available throughout, especially as the game is winding down.
The name of the game for Superbowl is hearty, casual food. You might know some fancy appetizer recipes but save these for a more formal occasion. Serve food that people can eat in front of the TV without making too much of a mess and your Superbowl party should be a lot of fun.
