Gruesomely Great Halloween Party Appetizers
Making spooky Halloween party appetizers is a question of balance. You want your appetizers, by definition, to be appetizing, but also spooky-looking. On the other hand, you do not want to make such realistic looking severed body parts and bugs that nobody is brave enough to sample your homemade party fare!
Halloween is a time to have fun and making Halloween party appetizers should be a lot of fun. Planning what to make is part of the enjoyment and you might like to make a combination of sweet and savory appetizer recipes, especially if you are catering for kids and adults. As well as the following ideas for Halloween appetizers, you can get creative yourself. Armed with some jello, gummy worms, ketchup, black food coloring, eggs and more, there are all kinds of spooky snacks you can come up with.
Spaghetti looks like intestines, eggs can be use to make eyeballs, jello molds come in heart and brain shapes and you can dot ketchup or tomato puree on lots of savory appetizers to resemble blood.
Easy Halloween Food
You can make some very simple savory Halloween party appetizers with basic ingredients. Stuffed potato skins always go down well and you can use a couple of different types of cheese and then splash some ketchup over them to look like blood. Combine grated cheese, spinach, breadcrumbs, and eggs to make cheesy spinach balls. Bake or fry them and these dark green balls will look good on your Halloween buffet table. Give them a gross name like moldy nibbles or mildew bites and the kids will want to taste them.
Serve baked chicken strips with a black olive slice and some ketchup at one end to resemble severed fingers or use a ghost, bat, or pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter to cut spooky shapes out of tortillas before you fry them. You can serve these homemade chips with salsa or guacamole. Make some hot artichoke dip with green food coloring to look like mold or mildew or some hummus, swapping the chickpeas for black beans.
Serve chicken wings, arranged on plates to resemble bats, or deviled eggs, mixing some ketchup into the yolk for a bloodshot eyeball effect. Green olives with pimentos also make a nice eyeball effect, when you use them for deviled eggs.
Core some cherry tomatoes and stuff them with cream cheese for an ultra-easy appetizer. Squeeze each one a little and arrange them on a platter - they will look like pimples. There are lots of two and three ingredient easy party appetizers with a Halloween theme that you can make. If you are making a cold appetizer recipe, why not get the kids to help out? Obviously small kids should not use kitchen knives but they can arrange gummy worms on frosted cupcakes or stir the ingredients in a homemade dip recipe.
Spook-tacular Sweet Snacks
If you want to have some sweet appetizers around for the kids, you can make purple or red finger jello. You can also use gummy bats, worms, or frogs to top frosted cupcakes.
If you want to serve something healthy, cut some apples into quarters and cut a little hole in each quarter. Put a gummy worm in each hole and watch your guests' faces when they spot these clever little appetizers!
